December 2012 – The world was supposed to end this month. Friday 21st was supposed to be the doomsday, but as you might be aware, you are alive, that is why you’re reading this, nothing happened. We went to the Doomsday Party at Club Phebe in Shanghai and we pinched ourselves when the sun came out!
I was travelling in China that month. Three weeks in Shanghai and one cold week in the capital Beijing. In Shanghai we were regular at the amazing Club Phebe. I never shy away from a foreign club’s dance floor because a dance floor in a foreign land is the most liberating place you can ever be.
And the Chinese love black people in their clubs – both the owners and the revelers. The owners love black people in their clubs because apparently we (blacks) make their clubs look “international.” Then the Chinese revelers, I guess, they loved it because inside a club they are free touch and feel a darkie without him frowning.
